Faulkner County Courthouse Records

Conway is the county seat of Faulkner County. The Faulkner County Clerk's office is at 801 Locust Street, Conway, AR 72032, phone (501) 450-4910. The Clerk holds marriage records from 1873 and probate records from 1873. Faulkner County was formed in 1873 from Conway County and Pulaski County, with Conway serving as the county seat. The Circuit Court Clerk holds land records and court files. Birth and death records at the county level begin in 1914.

Faulkner County's record base begins in 1873, which is relatively recent compared to many Arkansas counties. Pre-1873 records for Conway area families are in Conway County at Morrilton and Pulaski County at Little Rock, depending on which part of the area the family lived in. Conway County was the primary parent county for most of the Faulkner County area, and the Conway County records at Morrilton go back to 1829. Researchers tracing families in the Conway area before 1873 should start with the Conway County courthouse.

Conway is home to three universities — University of Central Arkansas, Hendrix College, and Central Baptist College — which give the city a strong institutional base for historical research. The University of Central Arkansas Torreyson Library holds archives and special collections relevant to Faulkner County and the central Arkansas region.

Note: Conway is the county seat of Faulkner County, not Conway County. Conway County's county seat is Morrilton, and its records go back to 1829. These are separate counties.
